The British Psychological Society is the representative body for psychology and psychologists in the UK. The Society was formed in 1901 and has more than 45,000 members. Through its Royal Charter, the Society is charged with overseeing psychology and psychologists. It has responsibility for the development, promotion and application of pure and applied psychology for the public good.
BPS saw our Digital Strategy workshops as an exciting opportunity to challenge some of the old assumptions of their organisation and achieve an agreed vision for the future. The new vision repositioned the BPS as a voice for psychology in the world at large, while still being a professional organisation of psychologists. This meant addressing the needs of a much wider audience than ever before.
Having defined the vision for the new web presence, we conducted a detailed content audit. We looked with internal departmental heads at each page of their extensive site to consider its place, and its value, within this new concept. Working with the BPS creative team, we helped develop a new style of writing and presentation, mentored the main editorial group and trained the in-house writing team. Content gems and beacons of good practice were identified – especially in the output of the Society’s specialist Divisions - and a plan created to use these as models across the Society as a whole.
