Blogs: Coffee, bacon and leveraging one's assets

LogosThe promise of strong coffee and bacon rolls prompted nearly 100 publishers to set their alarms a little earlier last Thursday morning and gather at the Law Society Hall in Chancery Lane for a Publishers Breakfast Seminar.

SiftGroups co-hosted the event along with Jobs board supplier Madgex and SEO specialist SiteVisibility.

Titled '100 ways to win through in online publishing' the event aimed to tackle some of the critical business issues facing publishers today. Presentations ranged from SiteVisibilty on 'SEO tactics to boost revenue and results in a recession', SiftGroups on 'Replacing lost revenue streams', and Madgex on 'A user centred view on leveraging your assets'.

The SiftGroups presentation centred around an interview with Sift Media Managing Editor Steve Roth. Steve gave full disclosure on the Sift Media business model. Asked by SiftGroups Lawrence Clarke how niche a title could be and still turn a profit he replied, “in the right market less than 600”.

Accompanying the event was a whitepaper giveaway containing 100 ways to win through in online publishing. From all accounts the event was a great success and we are hoping to have a follow up event in the autumn.

If you would like to be notified when the details of the next event are announced please let us know. If you missed the event, you might like to see an edited video version of the presentations or to download a copy of the whitepaper.

What I thought was really interesting was the intent with which the audience listened when Lawrence interviewed Steve live on stage. For me it was a really powerful demonstration of the higher levels of engagement created around conversations rather than the more traditional one-way broadcasts.
